Blink 182 poster

Hand-drawn poster honouring Blink-182, the American rock band from California. Their current line-up consists of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker.

Their name has been thought to be an obscure 90s skater slang, but may have a closer link with UFO's, one of Tom DeLonge's core interests and recurring visuals, details of such passion are depicted in their song "Alien's Exist". Two of them are sitting on the edge of the skating bowl, which has been tagged with pop-punk’s first logo.

Rumour has it the love birds fell in love at the rock show, before their move to Vegas, looking deep into her eyes, she said "what?" and he said he didn't know. Romance taken straight from The Rock Show, a classic.

Opposite them, there is a 90s payphone, from "What's My Age Again?", this is the first Blink single to feature Travis Barker on drums.

The group gained notoriety for high-energy live shows and humour with lyrics centring on relationships, adolescent frustration, and maturity—or lack thereof.

Indeed, the band show disdain for danger, with an underground attitude that has its root to shock society, this associated them with the suburban Southern California skater-punk scene.

This street culture is full of symbolism, such as graffiti and skulls, which began to appear during the 1970s–80s, maybe it’s because skaters are that little bit closer to death or because they just look gnarly. Both the sport and Blink pride themselves on being hardcore in their own way, with a long tradition of resistance to the mainstream.
