The Killers Poster

Hand-illustrated poster honouring The Killers, an American rock band formed in Las Vegas in 2001 by Brandon Flowers and Dave Keuning, then joined Mark Stoermer and Ronnie Vannucci Jr.

Their most famous song, ‘Mr Brightside’ has always charted in the Top 100 every year since its release in 2004. It is one of the many songs about heartbreak, betrayal and jealousy from past relationships.
This inspired the narrative of the print, drawn from the lyrics of a man who is obsessed with a girl that is seeing another, based on Brandon’s own experience when his first serious experience ended.

It shows Brandon, about to perform a show in their hometown, Las Vegas, represented here with the keyring and the show announced in his ex's lipstick.

He is seeing his reflection in a mirror, broken where his heart is, haunted with memories of past love present in the shattered glass. With the arm as part of the couple's embrace positioned around the neck in Brandon's reflection, it represents the lump in your throat when going through a difficult situation.

Accompanying Brandon in his nostalgia, there is the wild bird mentioned in their song Some Kind of Love, a lovebird, a bird normally rarely seen alone.

Indeed, Nevada's most famous band doesn't sing about violence, even with a name that evokes tales of horror and death.

The Killers actually got their name from a fictitious band that appeared in the video to New Order's song Crystal. This paradox is represented here with a crystal gun vase holding a flower, representing peace.
Propped up against it is a reference to their song Just Another Girl, where Brandon mentions seeing a fortune teller, their exchange is portrayed with the Lovers tarot card.

Framing the illustration are lightbulbs from the vanity mirror, a link to the light elements the band uses onstage and their logo, whose lighting bolt is embroidered on the back of Brandon's leather jacket.
